Former Director Freeh Updates June 2017 Report on Drug Importation Proposals

Matt Dolan Feb. 7, 2019

February 2019 Update: Former Director Freeh has published an addendum to his 2017 Report on the Potential Impact of Drug Importation Proposals on U.S. Law Enforcement. In the update, he reiterates the dangers posed to the U.S. drug supply chain and communities if federal policymakers allow the importation of drugs from other countries. He underscores how such proposals would allow an even greater amount of fentanyl-laced counterfeit pills to enter into the U.S., thereby worsening the opioid crisis. He also highlights the progress that has been made to address the counterfeit drug issue, but notes that the cost and burden on law enforcement has yet to be properly considered.
